“Psychic Retreat: Working with a Defensive Organization”

Saturday March 18th, 2017

10 AM – 12 PM

Pamela Van Dalfsen, Presenter

Terry Hanson, Discussant

Psychic retreats often stymie clinicians and result in an experience of being “stuck”, despite determined and thoughtful effort being invested. I will discuss a long term clinical case in which a defensive organization dominated and seemingly stalled the work for years.  The discussion will also include the way the patient’s hatred of reality finally began to yield, opening to necessary character work.

Clinical work will be the focus in these sessions. Our aim is to deepen and enrich our thinking by case presentations and discussion which keep British Object Relations in mind.  As always, we look forward to a lively dialogue with those in attendance.
