Transference, Interpretation, and Construction
Dr. Panajian will discuss the role of transference and transference interpretations in analytic therapy. Issues of personalizing the transference excessively will be explored. How to facilitate the unfolding of the internal world of the patient will be discussed. Dr.Panajian will discuss the significance of the analyst’s identification with the dimensionality in the primitive sensory world of the patient and of the analyst. Sensitivity of the analyst in differentiating the need of the patient for vertical level of interventions before horizontal level of interpretations will be explored. The significance of allowing space for both to examine material and their relevance to past events and to repetition compulsion will be discussed. The hazards of excessive interpretations will be discussed. Dr.Panajian will discuss the relationship of interpretation/construction with neurotic and non-neurotic organizations. When ego fragility affects temporality, interpretation and construction often stay on a superficial and intellectual level without intense relationship and disorganization. Construction needs to stay silent in the analyst’s mind in order to evaluate if the patient has the capacity to rebind after unbinding. Dr. Panajian will demonstrate the above complex relationships through clinical case presentations.
