An online event with Avedis Panajian, PhD, ABPP
Event Description
Dr. Panajian will explore the place of the passions involved with the containing function of the analytic therapist. This online conference will cover the complexity of the emerging passions that are involved in maintaining emotional contact with oneself and what emerges in between the therapist and the patient. Tolerating the mental suffering that is essential to stay in between, on the way, tolerating polarities, paradoxes, and tensions along with the containing function to stay open with all of one’s senses, to welcome the longing of the patient, and to be met with the therapist’s whole person-hood will be demonstrated through clinical case material. Emotional links of K, L, H and -K, -L, -H will be distinguished from Andre Green’s work of the work of the negative with clinical case presentations. Transformation and change in the therapist akin to dream work, depersonalization, and “participating in the patient’s hallucinosis” will be discussed along with discipline, passion, and compassion as being essential in maintaining a true “us” in analytic therapy.
