Coming Alive: A Psychoanalytic Online Workshop with Franco Scabbiolo
Presenter: Franco Scabbiolo
Tentandum et experiendum (One must try out and experience.)
This six-part online workshop is a special opportunity to follow Scabbiolo’s psychotherapeutic work with patients throughout the psychoanalytic process. The series will alternate group supervision between selected Scabbiolo’s patients as well as other attendees’ selected patients. As a team, Scabbiolo and attendees of the workshop will supervise the unfolding psychotherapeutic treatment revealing the evolution of the work over time. The workshop will focus on the experiential side of psychoanalytic work and the force of the emergence of “the feeling of the feelings” of transference/countertransference and the emergence of new ideas in the therapeutic relationship. These “feelings of the feelings” generate an image of the psychoanalytic process as it presents itself to the psychotherapist in session. Special attention will be made to moments in the therapeutic process when no transference/countertransference feelings are present. The aim of this workshop is for Scabbiolo to introduce and model self-supervision as he supervises his own work, along with the attendees of the workshop. Scabbiolo will also share his view of Meltzer’s later works as they apply to the therapeutic process. Each workshop will look at verbatim transcripts of in-session dialogues, and Scabbiolo will offer commentary on the unfolding work and invite group discussion. This online workshop is in the spirit of Meltzer’s idea as the atelier as a model of psychoanalytic education.
